Description

Objective

  1. The Women in Security Global Community Karen Marquez Honors recognizes a female security professional who has demonstrated exceptional and consistent dedication to advancing the security industry while making meaningful contributions to the broader community through her efforts.

Eligibility

  1. Nominee must be an ASIS member in good standing.
  2. Nominee must be a member of the ASIS Women in Security Community.
  3. Nominee must identify as female.
  4. Nominee must have a minimum of 15 years of experience in the security profession OR 10 years of experience in the security profession with an active ASIS certification.
  5. Nominees not selected may be re-nominated in any following year.
  6. Members of the ASIS Global Board of Directors, ASIS Awards Committee and/or Award Selection Committee are ineligible.

Nominations

  1. Nominations may be submitted by any ASIS member in good standing, to include self-nominations.
  2. Nominations must be submitted via the online awards management platform by the publicized annual deadline.

Criteria

  1. Nominations will be evaluated based on the nominee’s exceptional and consistent dedication to advancing the security industry, with a strong emphasis on contributions to ASIS and the Women in Security Community. While ASIS-related volunteerism and leadership are the primary focus, additional contributions to the security industry and broader community will also be considered. 
  2. Outstanding professional contributions to the security industry
    1. Examples of qualifying contributions include, but are not limited to:
      1. Leadership and active participation in ASIS, including community leadership, engagement in standards and guidelines development, and service on nominating, selection, or subject matter committees.  
      2. Published works such as security articles, white papers, practice guides, or other industry-relevant content  
      3. Engagement in industry events, including leadership roles or presentations at GSX or other conferences   
      4. Public speaking engagements, including webinars, podcasts, and interviews   
      5. Mentorship within ASIS and the broader security profession
      6. Achievement of ASIS certification(s)
      7. Other relevant contributions that enhance the security profession, including: 
        1. Leadership roles in non-ASIS security organizations 
        2. Contributions to industry related programs, education, or initiatives
        3. Attainment of non-ASIS security-related degrees, certifications, or recognitions
        4. Participation in non-security-related volunteer efforts that demonstrate leadership and service

Evaluation and Selection

  1. A Selection Committee, comprised of members of both the Women in Security Community and the ASIS Awards Committee, will evaluate nominations based on the established criteria, with the potential to choose one (1) winner per award year.
  2. The Selection Committee reserves the right to abstain from selecting a winner in the event that there are no nominations deemed suitable within a given award year.
  3. The Selection Committee relies soley on the information provided in the nominations and may not consider any outside or personal information. 
  4. If a nominee receives more than one nomination, all information from the nominations will be consolidated and reviewed as a single submission. The Selection Committee may take into account the total number of nominations a nominee receives during the evaluation process.
  5. Notifications will be issued via the online awards management platform.

Award and Recognition

  1. The award recipient will be formally recognized at Global Security Exchange.
  2. The award recipient will receive the following:
    1. Complimentary All-Access Pass registration to the award year's Global Security Exchange
    2. Three (3) nights of complimentary hotel accommodation (to be arranged by ASIS International)
    3. Engraved award
    4. Digital promotional graphics
  3. The award recipient will be featured on the ASIS website and across various communication platforms.
